Lancaster University Volleyball club

At Lancaster University Volleyball Club, we are dedicated to fostering a lively and inclusive community. Our club brings together students of all skill levels, whether they are passionate competitors or simply looking to stay active and meet new people. We take pride in our commitment to teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusivity, creating an environment where everyone feels welcome. We see our club as a family!

This year, we have officially established our second teams which have been a major step in our development, ensuring that all players, regardless of experience level, have structured opportunities to train, compete, and grow together. This has strengthened our club’s sense of unity and ambition, allowing us to set new goals and provide a more comprehensive pathway for player progression from our recreational programme. We believe that entering the LUSU Club Lottery will provide crucial financial support, helping us remove barriers to participation and enhance the experience for all members. With additional funding, we will be able to support our athletes more effectively and create new opportunities for growth. By joining this initiative, we aim to:

·      Enhance Equipment & Facilities: Volleyball is a fast-paced and high-intensity sport and having access to high-quality equipment is essential for player development and performance. We aim to invest in replacing old equipment such as ball baskets, and purchasing new volleyballs, nets, and other training gear to give us an extra edge. Additionally, funding will help us maintain and upgrade our facilities to meet the demands of our growing club.

·      Expand Training Opportunities: As our club continues to grow, securing sufficient training space has become a challenge. With additional support, we will be able to book more training sessions, allowing all members to have more time on the court. This will particularly benefit new players with the introduction of the second teams, who need structured sessions to build their confidence and skill level.

·      Support Travel & Competitions: Competing in national competitions, such as NVL and Student Cup, would be the next step for the club. However, the costs associated with travel, accommodation, and entry fees can be a significant barrier for many students. With additional funding, we can ensure that all players, regardless of financial background, have the opportunity to represent our university and compete at the highest level possible.

·      Increase Accessibility: One of our key priorities is to make volleyball accessible to all students. Currently, membership fees can be a limiting factor for some individuals who want to join the club. By securing funding through the LUSU Club Lottery, we would like to reduce membership costs, making it easier for students from all backgrounds to participate. Additionally, we want to offer subsidies for essential gear, so that every player has access to the right equipment without financial strain.

·      Develop Coaching & Mentorship: High-quality coaching is essential for player development, and we want to ensure that all our members receive the best possible training. Currently this is a barrier for us due to our location and a shortage of coaches in the UK. With additional funding, we would like to bring in experienced coaches to work with our teams, provide specialized training for advanced players, and support new players with structured skill-building sessions. We also aim to create a mentorship program where more experienced players can guide and support newer members in their development.

Our club has already made a lasting impact on many students, providing them with opportunities to develop their skills, build friendships for life, and grow as individuals. Over the past few years, we have seen our teams achieve great success in competitions, and we have expanded our outreach to ensure that more students have access to volleyball at different levels, from turn-up-and-play, recreational play, to high-level competitive teams. The establishment of our second teams this year has further solidified our club’s presence, and with additional financial support, we can continue to grow and reach new heights.

By participating in the LUSU Club Lottery, we can create sustainable funding that directly benefits our club and its members. Every ticket purchased will contribute to ensuring that volleyball remains an accessible and thriving part of student life. We are committed to actively promoting the lottery among our alumni, family, and friends to maximize participation and support, who will be able to see the progress through our Instagram and hopefully we can create other ways to keep in touch.

We appreciate the opportunity to be part of this initiative and look forward to using this support to strengthen our volleyball community at Lancaster University.
