Lancaster University Squash club

Hi, we are Lancaster University Squash Club a community focused on bringing people together who share a passion for squash! We offer a variety of playing opportunities for players of all abilities, from those who have never heard of the sport before to those who have been playing for over a decade. Community is at the heart of everything we do - from running charity events to our big social events throughout the year, including our alumni weekend and our end of term celebrations.

The support your money can provide can help change the experiences of the current members and those in years to come. The club’s alumni weekend is often a heavy expense on the club’s finances, so funds raised from the lottery scheme can ensure that this continues for years to come. It would also allow for potential other alumni events throughout the year such as alumni tournaments and exhibition matches. The funds would also provide training equipment for our players including court markers, rackets and balls to help improve the quality of training our members receive. Funding received from external sources is becoming increasingly sparse due to the strained budgets across the university so without these funds the society will potentially have to cut key competitions and trainings for our players. Coaching can also massively benefit our players, and the funds can allow all our players to receive coaching that would help push them to new levels. Access to our sport can also be an issue so with extra funding we can also provide financial support to those who struggle with costs to remove financial barriers that stop people playing the sport we love.

“This term we had our first ever professionally coached development session; this was hugely beneficial to my game and would love for us to be able to have more sessions like this!” -Robert Braines, men’s development member for four years.

“My participation in BUCS and Roses over the past two years has made my university experience, and I’m so grateful for the training time we’ve been granted as it’s so crucial to ensure our success!”- Dani Deighton, women’s BUCS member for two years.

“After my three years of university, I can confidently say that being a part of Lancaster Squash Society had been one of the most rewarding, and enriching experiences. I started as a complete beginner, and getting to learn a new skill from my peers has helped me, and so many women I’ve known, gain such confidence both on and off the court.”- Rachel Collins, women’s development member for three years.

“Squash has played a significant role in shaping my university life. The sport provides a great opportunity for both physical and mental development, creating an outlet that distracts from the stress of academia. The squash society also has a strong sense of community which has led me to make valuable friendships that extend beyond the sport.”

Alessandro Mutti, men’s BUCS member for two years.

‘Squash at Lancaster university is a place I have truly felt welcomed, no matter my ability. It is such a special community which could not be possible without the fantastic equipment, courts, and coaches. You know you are having fun when you forget it’s exercise!’- Frances Crawley, women’s development member for three years.

After signing up for the lottery we will provide regular updates on the club with information on how your money is contributing to our community and highlighting alumni and current members achievements.
