Why support Lancaster University Korfball Club?

Korfball is undoubtedly a unique sport matched by a wonderful club. As alumni, family members, and supporters of the club, we hope you’ve seen this yourselves, either through the stories of a loved one or from your own experience as part of LUKC. On the back of winning LUSU Club of the Year 23/24, we need your help to continue making the club the best it can be and to improve the university experience for countless more future Ligers.

We know in particular that korfball is a fantastic sport for beginners, providing a new space for both traditionally ‘sporty’ students and those who haven’t touched a ball since secondary school P.E. This inclusive and welcoming environment has helped our club almost double in size over the last two years, with 71 members across 23/24 and 60 members this year. To provide additional playing opportunities for all members, our newly-created 3rd team is in its second year, allowing more players to discover their love for korfball.

Alongside our increasing numbers, our success on the court continues to grow. In 2024, our 1st team triumphed at BUCS Plate, with our 2nd team finishing in a strong fourth place, before we recorded the largest Roses scoreline in our history with a 40-4 victory against York. We’ve continued this success into the new season with our 2nd team facing a lengthy journey to Exeter for BUCS Plate, whilst our 1st team will enjoy playing in front of a home crowd after qualifying for BUCS Championships for the first time in 8 years! As all ex-Ligers will know, our club prides itself on building a strong community and whilst our numbers have grown, we’ve made sure to keep all our members connected. Through organising weekly whole-club training sessions, regular tournaments both across the UK and abroad (in Slovakia and the Netherlands), and our weekly socials (ranging from bar crawls and nights out to Taskmaster and quizzes), LUKC has something for everyone.

We are so proud to be part of Lancaster University Korfball Club and need your support to continue improving the korfball experience for all Ligers.

What would you be supporting?

·      As hall fees continue to rise, your support will give members additional training time alongside extra playing opportunities for our 3rd team.

·      As we look to continue our recent successes, your support will benefit us by funding experienced, external coaches and new equipment (such as buying our first shot clock!).

·      Above all, your support will reduce the financial barriers for members wanting to play korfball, with the ultimate aim of reducing membership fees for future Ligers.

How can you see your impact?
