Lancaster University Sailing Club

We are Lancaster University Sailing Club, training throughout the year and welcoming everyone regardless of experience. We aim to widen participation in the sport and improve the quality of sailing through tailored training sessions for beginners and advanced members. In addition to weekly training and socials, we take part in a wide range of social and competitive events across the country. Our specialty is team racing, a highly competitive, quick, and dynamic mode with 3 boats racing per team. We sail Firefly class sailboats, a proven and highly popular class. Over the past year, we have established ourselves in a very strong position in our region (North of England), consistently performing at a high level. We reached a joint fourth position in the BUCS Championships Northern Qualifier and secured a position in the BUCS Finals through playoffs. We have also devoted significant attention to introducing beginners to the world of sailing. Our dedicated and highly qualified instructors guide members with limited to no prior time on the water from first steps and boat set up to being able to confidently take part in intermediate and advanced sessions. 

Should you choose to support us, your funds will be diverted into two main pathways:

1. Widening participation in sailing. We want to introduce as many people as possible to this wonderful sport. To do that, we need to be able to buy and maintain certain basic equipment and have sufficient reserves to be able to subsidise events or training sessions for individuals for whom that opportunity would be unattainable without your support.

2. Expert maintenance of equipment. Sadly, nothing is permanent, and our boats, powerboat engine, and other essential equipment need repairs from time to time. With your support and under qualified supervision, we will continue to maintain that equipment, enabling us to train better and improve the quality of sailing at our club.
